Super Bowl 2024 betting goes up to $23bn while Ohio Faces Gambling Risks
The surge in Super Bowl 2024 betting has reached new heights, with national betting figures hitting $23 billion, marking a $7 billion increase from 2023. This surge in gambling activity is being felt across the United States, with Ohio seeing a significant uptick in sports betting revenue, surpassing $1 billion in November. This represents an 18.5% year-on-year increase.
However, this rise in gambling comes with growing concerns. The Problem Gambling Network of Ohio (PGNO) has raised alarms about the impact on residents, noting that the number of Ohioans struggling with gambling issues has grown significantly. PGNO Executive Director Derek Longmeier emphasized the ease with which individuals can accumulate large betting losses on their phones and highlighted the need for a balance between enjoyment and harm.
According to Ohio for Responsible Gambling, 1.8 million Ohioans—about 19.8% of the state’s adult population—are now categorized as low-risk, moderate-risk, or problem gamblers, a staggering 300% increase since 2012. This trend mirrors a broader national rise in gambling-related problems.
In response, Ohio officials are focusing on promoting responsible gambling initiatives, including the ‘Pause Before You Play’ campaign, which encourages individuals to set limits on time and money spent on betting. Additionally, the Ohio Gambling Telehealth Network has expanded its remote counseling services for those affected.
As sports betting activity grows, industry players are also expanding their reach. Delaware North, for instance, partnered with Playtech in November 2024 to expand its Betly sportsbook and casino platform across several states, including Ohio, Arkansas, Tennessee, and West Virginia.

tickscollar All this bullshit was invented to squeeze out the last money. It used to be easier - bet on red, win or lose. And now some chickens are running, airplanes are flying... Circus.

xSuiZ The article is fire! Everything was laid out according to the facts. Drake is not a ludomaniac, he is a walking advertisement. And while the suckers believe in his "curse", Stake rakes in the money. Beautiful, you can't say anything. I've been riding a steak myself for a year now, I threw in crypto and generally don't give a about all the blocking.

Leoak Finally a good article on NC! I've been playing them since the very beginning, since the first Deadwood. Yes, their dispersion is crazy, you can lose a deposit in 100 spins. But when he pours ... It's worth it. In Mental x15k I caught, I still remember this spin. The whole point is in their x-mechanics, they really change the game, and not just for show.

tealblossom 2 minutes to respond? Yes, this is a dream! Otherwise, while you wait for these operators, you will already want to play. It's high time!

2sMilkiMiDiosa FIRE IN THE HOLE 3!! SCAM FROM NOLIMIT! HIT 2K, SPIN $10, NOT A SINGLE, BONUS!! HE JUST EATS AND DOES NOT CHOKE! I'LL NEVER GET INTO THAT SHIT AGAIN!

I don’t think anyone should be surprised by the increase in betting. With ads everywhere, it's hard to escape the temptation to bet. I agree that a balance between fun and harm is necessary, but it's a tricky line to walk when gambling is constantly pushed in our faces.
The rapid growth in Ohio’s sports betting revenue is impressive, but the rise in gambling-related problems is equally concerning. As a resident, I hope more resources are made available to help those struggling. The 'Pause Before You Play' campaign seems like a good step in the right direction.
"$23 billion on the Super Bowl alone? That’s insane. It's clear that sports betting is becoming a huge part of our culture, but we can't ignore the risks. More people need to be aware of how quickly things can spiral out of control.
While it's great to see the industry thriving, I'm really concerned about the growing number of problem gamblers in Ohio. It’s crucial that we continue to focus on responsible gambling initiatives and ensure that support is available for those who need it.
