Ace Casino Blackfoot
I’ve been coming here for years and while the property and concerts are still great, the gambling experience has declined, with machines not paying out like before.

Century Downs Racetrack and Casino
The property felt run down with poor cleanliness. The first room smelled like smoke, the second had visible stains, and housekeeping was absent during the stay. Definitely not worth the price paid.

Ace Casino Airport
While the rooms are still clean and service is decent, the overall atmosphere has changed for the worse. The casino feels less lively, with too many low-stake machines and a less engaging crowd. It’s no longer the fun destination it once was.

I had an enjoyable stay overall. The room was clean and cozy, especially with the fireplace, and the dining options were solid. We also had some luck in the casino, which added to the experience. While there were a few minor issues like seating placement, it was a pleasant getaway and I’d return for a good show.

We recently went for a concert and found the venue small but great for viewing. There were decent dining options, and the amenities like the pool and spa made it a nice winter getaway.

History of Gambling in Calgary

History of Gambling in Calgary
diverse multi-casino landscape across the city
strong focus on charitable gaming contributions
modern entertainment and event spaces
wide mix of slots, tables, and poker offerings

Calgary’s gambling industry has its roots in charitable gaming, where local organisations hosted bingo nights, raffles, and temporary casino events to raise funds. This model became a defining feature of Alberta’s approach, keeping gambling closely tied to community benefit while remaining under strict provincial oversight.

As regulations evolved, Calgary developed a diverse land-based casino scene rather than relying on a single flagship venue. Today, the city is home to several fully licensed casinos, including Cowboys Casino, Elbow River Casino, Deerfoot Inn & Casino, Grey Eagle Resort & Casino, Pure Casino Calgary, and Ace Casino Airport. All operate under the supervision of the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC), ensuring compliance, fairness, and responsible gaming practices.
