Dene Casino opened its doors on September 27, 2009, bringing much-needed entertainment and economic growth to the Lakeland region of Alberta. Operated by the Denesuline (Chipewyan) Tribe of the Cold Lake First Nations and supported by the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission, the casino plays an important role in local development. Located on reserve lands just 7 km south of the City of Cold Lake and around 300 km from Edmonton, the casino attracts both local players and travellers passing through the region.
Over the years, Dene Casino has built a reputation as a friendly, community-focused gaming destination. With a balanced mix of slot machines, live table games, regular dining specials, and an on-site hotel, it offers everything needed for a relaxed casino getaway without the crowds of larger urban venues.
Slots
The slot floor at Dene Casino features approximately 250 slot machines, providing a solid variety for a mid-sized regional casino. Players can choose from classic reel slots, modern video slots, and themed games designed to suit different tastes and playing styles. The machines are easy to navigate, and the gaming floor is organised into clearly marked smoking and non-smoking areas, ensuring comfort for all visitors.
Betting options are flexible, making the casino appealing to both casual players and those who prefer higher stakes. Slot denominations range from low-value spins to higher bet levels, allowing players to manage their bankroll comfortably. The steady rotation of machines and well-maintained equipment help keep the slot experience fresh and enjoyable.
Table Games
Dene Casino offers around 10 live table games with betting limits reaching up to $100, making it suitable for both beginners and experienced players. Popular options include Poker, Texas Hold’em, Roulette, and other classic casino card games. The tables are staffed by friendly, professional dealers who contribute to a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.
On weekends, the casino often hosts free live shows, adding extra entertainment to the gaming experience. Guests can also participate in scheduled tournaments, which bring a competitive edge and social energy to the table games area. Overall, the focus is on approachable, enjoyable play rather than high-pressure gaming.
Dining
Dining is a strong point at Dene Casino, with a menu built around hearty comfort food and daily specials. Guests can enjoy an all-day breakfast, Wing Wednesdays and Sundays, Prime Rib Fridays, Neck-bone Saturdays, and other rotating promotions that make dining affordable and satisfying.
The close connection between the casino and its dining facilities makes it easy for players to take a break without leaving the property. Whether stopping in for a quick meal or planning dinner around a gaming session, the food offerings complement the overall casino experience well.
Dene Casino delivers a well-rounded casino and hotel experience rooted in community values and friendly service. While it may not match the scale of large city casinos, it excels as a comfortable regional destination with solid gaming, good food, and convenient accommodations.

Dene Casino feels outdated.
Dene Casino is more depressing than exciting.
The casino's old interior design gave off a schizophrenic feeling, and there was no clear general theme or concept. Compulsive slot machine gamers were also monopolising entire rows of machines. To be honest, that turned me off. Excellent service is about all I can say.
We've visited a number of casinos over the years, and we've discovered that the Dene Casino is particularly stingy with their slot machine selection. One receives bonuses infrequently, and when they do, you hardly ever win anything. At both of these locations, your money is lost relatively quickly.
Machine payouts are horrendous. Even though I never truly expect to win at slots, I no longer find the game to be even remotely entertaining. Now, I lose quickly 10 to 15 times in a row. For many years, this was a respectable casino, but that was a long time ago.
