If there were 36 sectors on the roulette wheel, and the player would bet, for example, on even or on red (in both cases, these are 18 sectors), then the mathematical expectation of winning for both the casino and the player would be 0. That is, the probability of 50/50 hitting the ball on red or not. Of course, this alignment is not beneficial for the casino, which is why zero appeared. The presence of zero increases the mathematical expectation of winnings in the direction of the casino.
