Ontario Collaboration Raises Concerns
BetMGM has entered into a partnership with Push Gaming, enabling Ontario players to access popular slot titles such as Retro Tapes, Big Bamboo, Razor Returns, and Wild Swarm 2. While this partnership marks Push Gaming’s debut in Ontario with BetMGM, it also highlights ongoing concerns in the province's iGaming landscape regarding RTP (Return to Player) rates. These concerns arise from policies that have enabled operators to set lower RTPs in Ontario Online Casinos compared to other markets, raising questions about fairness for players.
Expansion to the US Market
Beyond Ontario, the companies have announced plans to extend their collaboration to the US market by 2025, pending regulatory approval. The agreement demonstrates a long-term strategy to grow their footprint in North America, although regulatory variances between states could pose challenges.
Push Gaming Chief Business Development Officer Fiona Hickey expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, describing it as a “proud moment” for the company. She emphasized the alignment of Push Gaming’s goals with BetMGM’s global reach and highlighted the significance of their games being available through a major operator.
Push Gaming’s Recent Moves
The partnership follows a series of expansions for Push Gaming, which has entered markets in Mexico, Spain, and Georgia this year. Additionally, Push Gaming was acquired by MGM Resorts subsidiary LeoVegas in September 2023, strengthening its foothold in the North American gaming landscape.
Ontario’s RTP Landscape
Despite these advancements, the inclusion of Push Gaming slots in Ontario has drawn attention to the province’s unique regulatory environment. Ontario allows operators to set RTP rates below industry standards, potentially diminishing player returns compared to other regions. This discrepancy has been a point of contention among players and industry observers, who argue that fair RTP rates are crucial to maintaining player trust and a competitive iGaming market.
BetMGM's Broader Strategy
BetMGM, which launched in the UK in August 2023, has been expanding its operations across Europe and North America. Most recently, it secured a license to operate in Sweden and announced an NBA Cup Sweepstakes competition. BetMGM VP of Gaming & Product Content Oliver Bartlett lauded Push Gaming’s slot games for their appeal and contribution to enhancing the iGaming experience.
