Sometimes inattention is really a reward. Massachusetts resident Paul Corcoran became a hero of lottery news by accidentally hitting a double jackpot in Powerball. It all started with a simple mistake: he mixed up the date of the draw and ended up buying two identical tickets - one in his native Fitchburg, and the other in Leominster, a city just 8 kilometers away.
Paul is not an avid lottery player. He does not build strategies, does not select "magic" numbers and does not buy dozens of tickets in the hope of cheating his luck. But it was his accidental negligence that did what even those who have been playing for years do not achieve - he won twice. And this is not a metaphor.
One set of numbers is two million dollars
Both tickets came with the same combination: 5, 9, 25, 28 and 69. The Powerball number did not match, but even without it, each ticket brought Paul $1 million - a total of $2 million, or almost 160 million rubles. As Corcoran himself admitted, he did not immediately understand what had happened. And only after some time did he realize that his inattention could cost him one of the tickets.
He went to the headquarters of the Massachusetts Lottery and presented both winning coupons. There he was greeted as a real hero: such cases are very rare, and they are told about in the lottery chronicle for a long time.
Without pathos - just a happy accident
Despite the double success, Paul remains calm and does not plan to radically change his life. According to him, he perceives everything as a fortunate coincidence. Perhaps this is the secret - not to chase millions, but just to be in the right store at the right time... and mix up the date.
