July boom: Ontario residents put $5.4 billion on the line, casinos take the lion's share of the market
The province of Ontario continues to strengthen its position as one of the leading gambling hubs on the North American continent. The latest data for July 2025 shows strong growth in the industry, with total revenue reaching $226 million. This figure is not only slightly higher than the figures for June, but also shows an impressive annual increase of 29%.
Income structure: who earns the most
The undisputed leaders in the Ontario gambling market are online casinos, which include slots and a variety of table games. The distribution of profits between the main segments is as follows:
- Online casinos: $183.5 million, which is 81% of total revenue.
- Sports betting: $38.5 million, providing 17% of the profit.
- Online poker: $4 million, occupying a modest 2% of the market.
Analysis of player activity
The total amount that residents of the region spent on gambling in July exceeded $5.4 billion. This is 24% more than in the same period in 2024. The main cash flow, namely 89% of all bets, was concentrated in the casino sector:
- Casino: $4.8 billion
- Betting: $500 million.
- Poker: $100 million
Interestingly, despite the general growth of financial indicators, the number of active players in July decreased slightly. Analysts counted 948 thousand unique accounts, which is 6% less than in the previous month. However, this decline was offset by an 8% increase in the average deposit size, which reached $237 per player.
At least now it’s all legal, not like back in the day in shady basements. Want to play? Deposit. Lost? That’s on you. Freedom! I like it.
Sports betting is the real deal! Casinos are for suckers, it’s pure randomness there. At least in sports you can analyze things. My $100 is definitely buried somewhere in those 500 million)
Damn. $237 average deposit. I don’t even always clear that much from a shift at work.
I actually make a bit from poker. Nothing compared to those figures, of course, but still nice) 4 million split among all poker players seems kind of low though.
Yeah, taxes… we all know how that goes. The casino is always in the black, and the player in the red. The stats only prove it: 226 million in net profit taken from people.
