The Casino de Montréal is one of Canada's most iconic gambling and entertainment venues. Located on Île Notre-Dame, just minutes from downtown, it combines gaming, dining, and cultural flair in a striking architectural space. Managed by Loto-Québec, the casino attracts both casual visitors and serious players looking for variety, atmosphere, and reliable operations.
History
On December 15, 1992, Quebec’s council of ministers approved the creation of a casino in Montreal. The chosen location was the former France Pavilion from Expo 67, later known as the Palais de la Civilisation, on Île Notre-Dame.
The Casino de Montréal officially opened on October 9, 1993. Architects Jean Faugeron and André Blouin designed the venue with a unique multi-level layout spanning 5,100 m² - unlike traditional single-floor casinos. The interior design involved renowned artists such as Micheline Beauchemin, Serge Lemoyne, and Marie-Christiane Mathieu, giving the casino a strong artistic identity.
The building was expanded in 1994 and again in 1996, when a performance hall was added. In 2005, Loto-Québec proposed an ambitious international entertainment complex in collaboration with Cirque du Soleil, including a new casino location and hotel. Due to public opposition and economic uncertainty, the project was ultimately abandoned.

I don’t enjoy this casino.
I don’t trust this place at all.
The casino was modest and lacked the lively atmosphere found in most casinos. After approximately an hour, we decided that we didn't like the choices of machines and left. The gondola ride was excellent, and the scenery was breath-taking!
We were really dissatisfied in the staff's demeanour when we visited the casino over the holiday weekend. My husband was playing his slot machine next to my ATM when I went to grab cash. My spouse said that she was returning as the staff came over and cashed me out. You cannot book a machine without a members card, the woman scolded you.
Most unfriendly Casino de Montréal I've ever been in, PERIOD. A few were alright, but the most didn't know much, so stay away if you have lung problems. food is possibly good, but altogether, I won't be returning.
