ACMA Blocks More Illegal Online Gambling Websites
The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) continues its crackdown on illegal online gambling operations, recently directing Australian internet service providers (ISPs) to block additional unlicensed websites. Among the latest additions to the blocked list are Crown Slots and Billy Billion.
Strengthening Consumer Protection
This latest enforcement action is part of ACMA’s broader efforts to safeguard Australian consumers from illegal gambling services. Investigations confirmed that these websites were operating in violation of the Interactive Gambling Act 2001, prompting ACMA to take action.
Website blocking has been a crucial tool in ACMA’s regulatory strategy. Since implementing its first blocking request in November 2019, the authority has restricted access to a total of 1,178 illegal gambling and affiliate websites in Australia.
Beyond blocking websites, ACMA’s enforcement measures have led to approximately 220 illegal gambling operators withdrawing from the Australian market since the introduction of stricter regulations in 2017.
Risks of Unlicensed Gambling Platforms
ACMA warns consumers about the dangers of engaging with unlicensed gambling platforms. Despite appearing legitimate, these services lack essential player protections, exposing users to significant financial risks. Players using such platforms may find themselves unable to recover lost funds due to the absence of regulatory oversight.
Recent Enforcement Actions
Just last month, ACMA blocked eight additional illegal gambling websites, including JokaRoom, AUDPokies888, and Wild Pokies, further demonstrating its commitment to maintaining a safer online gambling environment.
To help consumers make informed choices, ACMA provides a public register of licensed wagering services, allowing users to verify whether an operator is authorized to provide gambling services in Australia. The authority also offers resources on identifying illegal gambling platforms and submitting complaints about suspected unlicensed operators.
Ongoing Regulatory Efforts
In addition to targeting illegal gambling websites, ACMA recently conducted an investigation into Network Ten (Sydney) for broadcasting gambling advertisements during the 2024 Australia Formula 1 Grand Prix. This was found to be in violation of the Australian Commercial TV Code of Practice, highlighting ACMA’s broader commitment to enforcing gambling regulations across various platforms.
With these continued efforts, ACMA remains steadfast in its mission to protect Australian consumers and uphold the integrity of the country’s gambling laws.

ravenmilkers If Black Cube is really just an operator, then who spent money on such a large-scale operation? It doesn't cost 5 kopecks.

I think it's great that ACMA is cracking down, but I hope they also educate people on how to gamble safely with legitimate platforms.
I got scammed by an unlicensed site once—never again! These blocks are necessary to keep people safe.
While I understand the need for protection, I wish there were more legal alternatives available for Aussie players. We’re really limited in choices.
I'm glad to see ACMA taking action. Too many people have lost money to these shady sites. More regulation is definitely needed!
