Stakelogic Ordered to Pay Realistic Games €45,000 for Unauthorized Use of ‘Book of Charms’ Trademark
Following a legal battle that spanned several years, the District Court of The Hague has issued a ruling demanding that Stakelogic compensate Realistic Games with €25,000 for breaching their settlement agreement over the Book of Charms trademark. Additionally, Stakelogic has been ordered to cover €20,711.33 in legal costs, bringing the total payout to €45,000.
The Conflict Unveiled
The dispute stemmed from Realistic Games' release of the Book of Charms slot in 2018, which they subsequently trademarked. In 2019, Stakelogic introduced the Book of Charms Quattro slot, prompting Realistic Games to demand its removal due to trademark infringement. After initial resistance, the two companies reached a settlement agreement.
As per the terms of the agreement, Stakelogic was obligated to cease using the trademark by 18th March 2022. Failure to comply would result in a penalty of €5,000 per day, capped at €25,000. Despite removing the game, Stakelogic continued displaying the trademark on its website past the specified deadline. Realistic Games then sought the agreed penalty, leading to the legal dispute escalating to the District Court of The Hague after initial proceedings in the Amsterdam court.

Thunderaan 80% RTP? That’s robbery! Why even bother playing if the odds are stacked this badly?

CruzinCruz Poilievre had a massive lead, and now it's gone. Aligning with Trump was a terrible move—Canadians don’t want that kind of politics here.

KingDestroyXD It’s great to see Sweden protecting its players! GG.bet has been known for lowering RTPs, and it’s a relief to see them off the market. We need more action like this to ensure a fair gaming environment!

This serves as a cautionary tale for game developers to always respect intellectual property rights and honor settlement agreements. It's an expensive lesson for Stakelogic to learn.
Realistic Games must have felt justified in pursuing this case, especially if they had trademarked the title. It's a reminder of the importance of intellectual property rights in the gaming industry.
Trademark disputes are tricky business, and it seems like Stakelogic didn't fully adhere to the terms of the settlement agreement. Hopefully, they'll learn from this experience and be more vigilant in the future.
It's unfortunate to see legal disputes like this arise in the gaming industry. Hopefully, both Stakelogic and Realistic Games can move past this and focus on creating great content for players.
