A blow to remote work: UK authorities approve drastic tax increases for online operators
The British government has put an end to the discussion of fiscal policy on gambling: an official decision has been made to significantly increase the tax burden on the online gambling sector. The authorities agreed with the arguments of the parliamentary treasury committee, which insisted on stricter regulation and taxation of remote betting and casinos.
According to the approved plan, the market expects step-by-step changes that will hurt the income of online operators:
- From April 1, 2026, the tax on remote gaming products (online casinos, slots, etc.) will almost double - from the current 21% to 40%.
- From April 1, 2027, changes will also affect online betting: the tax rate will increase from 15% to 25%.
However, the reform is selective. The traditional offline sector (land-based betting shops and casinos), as well as betting on horse racing, have avoided tariff increases - for them, the conditions remain the same. Moreover, there is good news for bingo lovers: the tax on this game will be completely abolished starting in April 2026.
The chairman of the Treasury Committee described the measures taken as a "victory for common sense." The position of the authorities boils down to the fact that high-risk products available online 24/7 and causing significant social harm should be subject to increased fees. It is noteworthy that "common sense" and security in this context mean the support of old, classic gambling formats as opposed to digital counterparts.
40%...
In general, I think that this is the right thing to do. Online casinos are evil, people lose apartments without leaving their homes. I poked on the phone and that's it, there is no money. And you still have to get to the real casino, maybe you will change your mind while you are walking. So I support it, let them pay!
Folks, you don't get the joke. They strangle everyone online to drive everyone back to booths and racetracks. Like "supporting traditions". yes, of course. It's just that terrestrial networks, apparently, brought suitcases to whomever needed them.
Britain has always been the standard of regulation, and now it is turning into a stuffy office. Who in their right mind would work in the white with such extortion?
And for good reason.
Wow, tax-free bingo? Hahaha, finally! The whole of Britain is now breaking balls to roll. In fact, it seems, the lobby of pensioners in parliament won. "Victory of common sense" is when grannies are happy!
