AI Undercover: How BetGames Secretly Replaced Live Dealers with Digital Avatars and Fooled 70% of Players
The well-known gambling provider BetGames carried out a large-scale and bold experiment that demonstrated just how close the future really is. During several days of broadcasts of one of its top live shows, real hosts were secretly replaced with their precise digital replicas generated by artificial intelligence. Naturally, users were not informed about the substitution in order to preserve the integrity of the experiment. The results surprised even the developers themselves.
As it turned out, more than 70% of the audience didn't suspect anything at all and were unable to distinguish the high-quality neural network avatars from real people. The illusion was so convincing that key engagement metrics did not drop even slightly: the average bet size, the total number of wagers placed, and the time players spent at the table remained exactly the same as during broadcasts featuring real dealers.
However, despite the obvious technological breakthrough and the success of the test, a machine takeover in casinos is not expected anytime soon. BetGames CEO Andreas Koeberl rushed to reassure the public that there are currently no plans for mass implementation of AI hosts. The reason lies in simple economics. Generating realistic avatars in real time and maintaining their uninterrupted operation 24/7 currently requires enormous computing power. As a result, the costs of servers and software turn out to be no cheaper than paying salaries to human staff.
Honestly, I don’t care. As long as my bets hit and withdrawals work properly. You could even put a dog there.
Wow, we’ve really come to this.
