Brand dictatorship: FIFA renames 2026 World Cup stadiums and removes bookmaker logos
The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has imposed strict restrictions on the arenas that will host the 2026 World Cup matches in the United States, Canada and Mexico. According to the new requirements, 10 out of 11 stadiums are required to temporarily abandon their commercial names in favour of geographical names. In addition, the branding of any companies that are not official partners of the association should be completely removed from the sites.
Geography instead of sponsors
For example, the famous Hard Rock Stadium will turn into Miami Stadium for the duration of the tournament, and AT&T Stadium will receive the neutral name Dallas Stadium. This decision is dictated by FIFA's desire to protect the interests of its global sponsors and avoid conflicts with brands that have invested in stadium infrastructure for years, but are not part of the federation's "pool" of partners.
A blow to the betting sector
Particular attention is paid to the integration of the gambling business. At the moment, six arena hosts have active contracts with major betting operators and lotteries, including such giants as DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, Caesars Entertainment, and others.
Methods of eliminating advertising will differ depending on the design of the objects:
- At Lincoln Financial Field, it will be enough for the FanDuel operator to deactivate the digital panels.
- At Hard Rock Stadium, management will have to physically dismantle or cover signs and banners.
Mercedes under roof protection
The only facility that received partial relief after a year and a half of intense negotiations was the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. FIFA has allowed the logo of the German automaker to be kept on the retractable roof of the stadium. The reason was a technical risk: the dismantling of the emblem could lead to damage to the complex structure. However, the official name of the arena will still be changed to Atlanta Stadium.
In addition to the infrastructure changes, FIFA has identified Stat Perform as the exclusive provider of betting data. The company will become the official intermediary for licensed bookmakers in the United States during the World Cup.
FIFA as always... Greedy bastards. Billions from Qatar were not enough for them, now they are also bending stadiums. Hard Rock Stadium sounds legendary, and the Miami Stadium is some kind of bullshit for a municipal league.
