British players are leaving abusive relationships with moronic legal brands
Why don't Brits play in "official" casinos anymore?
When a player is created conditions under which it is almost impossible to play, he simply turns around and goes where it is easier. We have already discussed this with other countries. Today it is the turn of the UK - let's talk about why and how the British are turning away from licensed casinos en masse and choosing gray areas.
What's going on with gambling in Britain
If you thought that the Netherlands was the champion of absurd gambling bans, then Britain is confidently catching up. The local authorities decided to "take care" of the population in such a way that now you can do anything you want in legal online casinos... except for actually playing.
Here are some of the innovations that will come into force in the fall of 2025:
- Betting limits. For players from 18 to 24 years old - a maximum of £4 per spin, for everyone else - no more than £5.
- Prohibition of autospins. Each spin must last at least 2.5 seconds. Plus, a ban on displaying real wins and losses.
- Deposit limits. No more than £150 in a 30-day period. It doesn't matter how solvent the player is – there is a ceiling, and that's it.
All this, of course, mows down interest in legal gambling. Several large companies have already left the market, including EveryMatrix and BetBright.
Who wins? Of course, the offshores!
While the British regulator is strangling its market, offshore casinos are rubbing their hands. Players run to where:
- you can dep at least a little;
- no one makes you wait 2.5 seconds between spins;
- You can spin, bet, lose and win without too much control.
Recent data shows that offshore companies have already occupied 4% of the entire UK online gambling market, and 0.8% of Britons play exclusively in unlicensed casinos. The numbers seem modest, but only at first glance.
This "0.8%" pours £695 million a year into gambling. Yes, less than one percent of users spend almost a yard of pounds.
Today, one in seven players in Britain has heard of an offshore brand at least once, and in the last 5 years their market share has grown by 500%. And that's not the end.
Is there a way out?
Looking at all this, one wonders whether it is possible to create a sane model of regulation at all.
So far, everything looks like a swing. Either they want to make an iGaming center out of the country in order to cut taxes, or they introduce such bans, as if they themselves dream of an outflow of players. Someone is trying to be like Malta, and someone is like China.
But this is no longer our area of responsibility. We are not politicians, we just watch, discuss and sometimes laugh at this news. So, don't forget to turn on your VPN, have a good day, and see you tomorrow. And tomorrow we will talk about the legalization of prediction markets.
I made a deposit of £200 and was rejected. Like "too much". I was in shock. I left immediately.
Guys, if you want to play normally, look at offshore companies from Curaçao or Anjouan. Don't thank me.
BetBright was my favorite operator. RIP. Only Stake and VPN Left
"Legal casino" sounds more and more like an insult...
I think they just want everyone to stop playing. Well, like "treatment through disgust".
This is no longer the protection of players, but some kind of punitive policy. Such measures do not save - they just push you out.
