Canada fined FanDuel $350,000 over suspicious table tennis betting
The Canadian regulator in Ontario (AGCO) issued a $350,000 fine to FanDuel after a betting episode on the Czech Table Tennis Star Series, a tournament that has previously been featured as a competition with increased risks to sports integrity.
According to the regulator, in October-November 2024, FanDuel accepted 144 bets from three players from Ontario, but did not initiate a quick and timely review, although the context and the betting market itself were already considered "problematic".
FanDuel did not agree with the sanction. The company insists that its monitoring systems are among the strongest in the industry, and emphasises that it was FanDuel that was the first to report suspicious bets to external organisations that deal with sports integrity issues.
However, AGCO's position boils down to something else: the complaint is not that suspicious bets appeared at all (this happens to any operator), but that the reaction was too slow - and the operator did nothing on its side for too long.
I live in Ontario, and honestly, it's good that the casinos are being pressed.
144 bets from three players is a red flag if they also hit the same thing.
Table tennis in betting always smells fishy. Especially some "series" without wide publicity.
Well, that's all: not "caught the bet", but "caught a pause". If the monitoring is so top-notch, why did they slow down?
