Colin Farrell became a gambling addict in Macau: the release of the drama "The Ballad of the Little Gambler" has started

The world premiere of the new gambling drama The Ballad of the Little Gambler, directed by Edward Berger, took place. On October 29, the picture will receive its digital debut - it will be available to subscribers of the Netflix streaming platform.

The film is an adaptation of the novel written by Lawrence Osborne in 2014. The adaptation of the original work for the screen was handled by screenwriter Rowan Joffe.

The main role in the film went to Colin Farrell. He plays a character named Lord Doyle, who is trying to hide from a troubled past and serious debts in Macau. There he plunges into the world of gambling, squandering the last money he has left in the casino. At the same time, a private investigator named Cynthia Blythe is on his trail - this role is played by Tilda Swinton Dao Ming, an employee of one of the casinos, which gives him a ghostly last chance to remedy the situation. The genre of the film is described as a psychological drama that explores themes of redemption and high risk.

Despite the participation of star actors, professional critics met the film rather coolly. On the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, the rating of the "freshness" of the film stopped at 56% (based on 36 reviews). On Metacritic, the situation is similar - only 48 points out of 100. However, Colin Farrell's acting still received recognition: for this transformation, he was awarded the Golden Icon Award at the film festival.  held in Zurich.
