Great Canadian Resort Toronto Celebrates Success of First-Ever WSOP Series
The Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto recently made waves in the poker world by hosting the city’s inaugural World Series of Poker Circuit (WSOPC) series in collaboration with GGPoker. The event marked a significant milestone for the resort, with management lauding it as a resounding success.
Hailed as the largest WSOPC International series of the season, the Toronto tour stop boasted a staggering prize pool exceeding $5.5 million. Poker enthusiasts from all corners of North America flocked to the resort to partake in the action-packed festival.
Gregory Chochon, Vice President of the World Series of Poker, commended Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto for hosting the largest International Circuit Main Event of the season. He expressed optimism about the resort's potential to become a premier destination on the International Circuit schedule, extending gratitude to both players and organizers for their contributions to the event's success.
The Details Unveiled
Spanning 11 days, the Toronto series attracted over 6,000 entries, including 324 Main Event online qualifiers facilitated by GGPoker. Surpassing initial estimates, the series shattered expectations by generating a prize pool well beyond the projected $3.9 million.
Among the notable triumphs of the series was Khaled Aljoma's victory in the Main Event, securing a substantial prize of $427,191 along with a coveted championship ring. A member of Great Canadian's rewards club from Burlington, Ontario, Aljoma expressed his joy at clinching the title and hinted at using his winnings to enhance his home. Despite working as a mechanic by day, poker remains a cherished hobby for the 50-year-old, whose live tournament earnings now surpass $500,000. The Main Event, featuring a field of 1,600 entries, contributed to a formidable $2.8 million prize pool.
In addition to awarding eight championship rings, the series granted all winners a seat at the prestigious $1 million Tournament of Champions scheduled to take place at Commerce Casino in Los Angeles in May.
Renowned poker player and GGPoker ambassador Daniel Negreanu graced the event with his presence, participating in the Main Event. Although his journey ended with a commendable finish in 230th place, Negreanu praised Great Canadian Toronto as an ideal host for large-scale poker tournaments, citing its impeccable facilities and hospitable ambiance.
Reflecting on the triumphant debut of the WSOP tournament, Robert Katsavelos, General Manager of Great Canadian Toronto, expressed immense pride in the overwhelming response from both players and spectators. He emphasized the resort's commitment to delivering unparalleled experiences and hinted at future endeavors aimed at further solidifying its reputation as a premier destination for poker enthusiasts.
The successful collaboration between Great Canadian Toronto and GGPoker underscores the growing enthusiasm for poker within the community and sets a promising precedent for future endeavors in the realm of high-stakes tournaments. As the curtains draw on the inaugural WSOP series, anticipation mounts for the resort's next chapter in the world of competitive poker.
BrianTheZealous Wow, I used to play at Goldwin all the time. It’s really concerning to hear about these breaches. Definitely withdrawing my funds ASAP!
CarolThePassionate Powerful drifts!
edwardadams0c Oh, and Chests of Cai Shen made me happy! Yesterday I made a good profit on bonus coins, almost x200 of the bet.
ChristopherTheSerene This giveaway seems more like a scam than a treat. It’s frustrating that they promote these contests without mentioning the reduced RTP. Players deserve better transparency!
SharonTheCrazy Another ‘lucky’ winner? With the RTP capped at 90%, I’d be surprised if anyone actually comes out ahead in the long run. This just feels like a marketing ploy.
KevinTheGracious This is a good step in the right direction, but I honestly think it’s not enough. Gambling ads are everywhere, especially on social media. The addiction warnings are helpful, but what about banning these ads altogether? It worked for cigarettes, so why not gambling?
WilliamTheTenacious Damn, where to play now? Deception everywhere!
LewisKimberly1 Well, the developers did a great job, no doubt. You can tell they put in the effort. But this whole RTP thing is really annoying! Why should you have to check the percentages before every game? Is that a new gimmick to rip off players?
PaulTheBully RTP is that thing you only start thinking about after you've lost half your salary. Be careful, friends!
LewisMichelle2 Either the generator is slow, or they have someone there with a "don't let me win" button. Who else is so "lucky"?
EvansBarbaraNixon What nonsense? I played this Book of Dead a hundred times, won normally. You are scaring me with these lowered RTP, but I really raised in this slot. Don't fall for it, guys, all this crap about 70%
johnhill7u I honestly thought VegasLowRoller was just teaching how to play safely...
Parkernancy Guys, has anyone played AllSpins? How is it anyway?
Daniel Negreanu's presence at the WSOPC series added an extra layer of excitement to an already thrilling event. It's fantastic to see such a legendary player supporting local tournaments. Looking forward to seeing more big names at future events hosted by Great Canadian Toronto.
As a Toronto native, seeing the WSOP come to my hometown is a dream come true. Thank you, Great Canadian Toronto, for bringing this prestigious event to our city. Can't wait for the next one!
Khaled Aljoma's story is truly inspiring. From a mechanic to a poker champion, his journey exemplifies the thrill and unpredictability of the game. Congratulations on your well-deserved win, Khaled!
What an incredible achievement for Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto! Hosting the largest WSOPC International series of the season is no small feat. Congratulations to the organizers and participants for making this event such a success.
