IBIA and PFA Canada Launch Sports Integrity Education Program for CPL
The International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) has joined forces with the Professional Footballers’ Association Canada (PFA Canada) to deliver a comprehensive sports integrity education program for the Canadian Premier League (CPL). This initiative aims to educate players and staff about the dangers of sports betting-related match-fixing and its impact on the integrity of the league and their careers.
Approximately 300 players and staff from the eight teams in Canada’s top-tier soccer league will receive training through this program. The education will be provided both in-person and online, ensuring broad accessibility and engagement. The program commenced in May, and the agreement includes a provision for continued delivery in 2025 to accommodate new players joining the league.
"IBIA’s members take their role as responsible, regulated betting operators seriously, focusing on protecting the integrity of sporting competitions and betting markets," said IBIA CEO Khalid Ali. "Protecting soccer players, staff, and officials from being targeted by criminals is essential to stamping out sports-betting related match-fixing and fraud."
The education initiative was made possible through a CA$300,000 commitment over three years from IBIA member operators bet365, Betway, and FanDuel. This funding supports the creation of a Canada-wide athlete education program aimed at addressing the threats posed by sports betting-related match-fixing and fraud.
"At FanDuel Canada, we recognize the critical role athlete education plays in maintaining sports integrity," said FanDuel Canada General Manager Dale Hooper. "We are thrilled to expand our engagement with IBIA through this partnership, helping to build a curriculum that will help athletes understand their role in protecting sport."
The IBIA’s sports integrity education program is a global initiative, and the association asserts that player education can significantly reduce the threat of sports betting-related match-fixing. In 2024, IBIA has already trained athletes at the European Boxing Championships in Serbia.
Soft2Bet Joins IBIA
In related news, Soft2Bet has become the newest member of IBIA, activating its membership in Ontario before expanding it to its other brands worldwide. In March, Soft2Bet received a Certificate of Registration from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO), paving the way for the launch of its iGaming brand, Tooniebet.com, in the province. Tooniebet.com will now contribute to IBIA’s sports betting integrity monitoring platform, which ensures betting integrity by detecting and reporting suspicious activity.
This partnership between IBIA and PFA Canada represents a significant step in safeguarding the integrity of sports in the Canadian Premier League, reinforcing the importance of education and proactive measures in the fight against match-fixing and fraud.
DeborahTheMarvellous I'm really impressed with WinSpirit's new VIP program! The tournaments sound exciting, and it's great to see a casino actually listening to what their players want. Can't wait to see what they have planned next.
Parkerroberts This is a perfect example of why self-exclusion programs exist. They’re there to help people stay away from gambling. Trying to bypass them not only defeats the purpose but can lead to serious trouble like this.
Donaldbetty It's concerning to see such young individuals involved in large-scale cyber attacks. This shows the importance of investing in cybersecurity education and preventive measures from a young age. Hopefully, the authorities can get to the bottom of this and prevent future incidents.
HarrisJennifer3 Whoa whoa!
JasonTheDynamic The graphics are top-notch.
DonaldTheXtraordinary Wow, Jonathan Tamayo's win is incredible! But I totally agree with the conclusion. Poker requires so much skill and dedication. I’ve seen too many friends lose big trying to chase these rare wins. Slots are definitely more my speed – simple and fun!
HelenTheLoyal Wow, what an incredible win for Monica Bouma! It's true that the odds of hitting such a jackpot are insanely low, but it’s stories like these that keep people coming back. Congrats to her, though I'll stick to my smaller bingo games for fun.
HelenTheAmbitious It's great to see that Ontario is cracking down on unregulated gaming sites, but lowering the RTP to 85% feels like a sneaky way to take more from players. Regulation should mean better protection, not just more ways for the house to win.
CrazyDaniel Well, what can I say, guys, here's your trust for you. Instead of 96%, now it's 94% RTP.
ParkerSusan7 It's really disappointing to see someone with Drake's influence promoting gambling like this. Young fans might follow his lead without realizing the risks involved.
BarbaraTheYouthful Just another fantasy for the poor... No one really wins like that.
WilliamTheTenacious These new slots of yours are just another way to squeeze the last penny out of players' pockets. So where is the innovation here? Just beautifully drawn pictures and promises of big wins.
SandraTheXtraordinary Excited to see Wazdan's games coming to Fitzdares, but the reduced RTP is a bit concerning. Hope the gameplay still stays fun and rewarding!
CharlesTheLuminous Excited to see ODDSworks expanding in Ontario! Their games are top-notch, but I hope the lower RTP doesn't make it too hard to win.
RuthTheXtraordinary I can't believe how generous Nolimit City is with this tournament! 500 free spins and an iPhone 15 Plus for the winner? Count me in!
With the rapid growth of online betting, programs like these are more important than ever. The use of both in-person and online resources is a smart move to ensure everyone gets the information they need. Looking forward to seeing positive results from this effort!
Impressive to see the collaboration between major betting operators and the league to fund this initiative. Ensuring that athletes are well-informed about the risks and consequences of match-fixing is essential for the future of fair play in sports.
Player education is key to preventing match-fixing. It's good to see that the CPL is taking this issue seriously and that IBIA and PFA Canada are stepping up to address it. This investment in integrity will pay off in the long run.
This is a fantastic move! With so much money in sports betting these days, it’s essential to protect both the players and the sport itself. I hope this program sets a standard for other leagues to follow.
It's great to see initiatives like this being implemented. Educating players and staff about the dangers of match-fixing is crucial for maintaining the integrity of the league. Kudos to IBIA and PFA Canada for taking this important step!
