UK operators were burned by blocking positive players
In July 2025, the British regulator UKGC arranged a large-scale inspection: they studied the database of players who were restricted by local online casinos. And the results turned out to be indicative.
At first, the statistics look innocent — only 4.3% of the 15 million accounts were sanctioned. But then the strange things begin: almost half of these blocked or limited users (46.8%) were in the black at the time of the blocking.
If we count all the participants in the sample, it turns out that only a quarter of players consistently manage to beat the casino. And it is among them that "sudden restrictions" most often occur.
How do UK casinos work?
Operators use a classic scheme: hiding behind the slogans of "responsible gambling", they cut the maximum bets or block access altogether. The most common tool is to reduce limits. About 60% of "suspicious" players can bet no more than 10% of the standard maximum after the restrictions. That is, in fact, it becomes problematic for them to win further.
From a business point of view, this looks logical — why keep profitable customers who take out money? But for the players, this is more like manipulating the rules.
What the regulator said
The head of the UKGC, Andrew Rhodes, was careful to note that businesses have the right to manage risks in their own way. But at the same time, the authorities began to work out new rules that will make the very process of restrictions transparent and understandable.
And the state has a reason for this: every disgruntled player who goes offshore is a loss of taxes. And in the UK, the issue of taxes is always the most acute.
What this means for the market
The facts speak for themselves: UK online casinos are cutting up profitable players, and this has now been officially confirmed by a study. For the regulator, this is a signal that business is going too far, which means that new adjustments to the rules are possible soon.
The main threat to the market is the massive outflow of active players into illegal offshore projects. And this is a risk not only for operators, but also for the entire taxation system.
Wow, 46.8% in the black? This is the real reason for all the "sanctions".
I went offshore and there are no problems.
I wonder if anyone really believed that casinos honestly restrict only "addicts"?
Haha, a classic of the genre: if you win, you get scissors for bets, if you lose, you can play as much as you can.
Well, here is the confirmation that "responsible gambling" is just a convenient excuse.
