Lionel Messi becomes Kalshi’s latest star promo ahead of the 2026 World Cup
Lionel Messi has joined Kalshi’s advertising campaign after Timothée Chalamet. The Argentina captain published an Instagram post promoting the prediction market platform, and the scale of the placement matches the name: Messi’s page has 507 million followers.
In the photo, Messi poses with his national team partners Rodrigo De Paul and Nicolas Otamendi. For Kalshi, this is not just another celebrity tie-in, but an attempt to enter the soccer audience as loudly as possible while all eyes are on the 2026 World Cup.
The post appeared a few days after Timothée Chalamet became the face of Kalshi. First a Hollywood star, now Messi — the platform is clearly betting on names that work far beyond the niche prediction markets audience.
The logic is clear. During the World Cup, traffic around soccer becomes intense, and prediction markets want to capture some of the attention that would otherwise go to sportsbook brands, crypto casinos and sports media. Kalshi is not trying to look modest in this fight: if it is signing ambassadors, it is going straight for the top tier.
At the same time, the Messi and Kalshi pairing is especially telling. A footballer with a half-billion-person audience is promoting not a classic sportsbook, but an event contracts platform. For a mainstream user, the difference may not be obvious, but for the market it is an important signal: prediction markets are moving more actively into sports betting territory, and they are doing it through the same stars who previously would have worked with bookmakers.
